Logo of the Rotary ClubsThe City of Hereford Rotary Club have kindly donated £200 to support the Days Out With Dad October Potholing event. There are currently around 40 men and women in the club, who enjoy themselves socially while also raising thousands of pounds for local charities and good causes. They are well known in Hereford for organising the annual Wye River Festival, with its Dragon Boat Race and Duck Race, that recently took place on the August Bank Holiday Monday. We thank them for their support in helping to ensure that our events remain inclusive and affordable to all.

A stack of kitesIn case you’re struggling to get off the ground with the children this weekend (16th / 17th July 2011), the Herefordshire Kite Festival at Berrington Hall, north of Leominster may be able to help you. It’s described as a laid-back, friendly festival for kite enthusiasts and for the public to come along and watch. You can take your own kite along to join in, and there’s even lessons on-hand for novices. And in case you’re busy this weekend, there’s always the chance to pop down to Cheltenham the following weekend (23rd / 24th July) for the Golden Valley Kite Fliers Festival.

Happy flying!

Girl with hands covered in slimeAs well as joining Days Out With Dad ice-skating this weekend, you may want to consider joining CHaOS (Cambridge Hands-On Science) when their summer roadshow visits Stroud in Gloucestershire on Sunday 10th July, 12 – 5pm at the Subscription Rooms. Lia Chappel, a parasite geneticist at Cambridge University, explains: CHaOS is all about breaking down the barriers that prevent children and families seeing that science is fun, relevant and something they can understand.

Dad’s Day Out

Flyer for super car day out in SurreyIt’s not the most local of days out, but if you find yourself near Dunsfield Park in Surrey on 14th May, this chance to ride in a supercar at a family event may be right up your street. This is the home of BBC’s Top Gear, and what’s going on here should fuel enough Clarkson-style bull or banter for weeks after. There’s even a chance to try out a skid pan. This event is not organised by Days Out With Dad – with an expectation of attendance in the region of 10,000, it’s a little outside our scale. But for details of how to book, click on the flyer or visit the website of The Children’s Trust.

The Round Table LogoWe are pleased to announce that Days Out With Dad have been awarded £500 by Hereford Round Table. Among the reasons given for picking us out from the competition were the worthiness of our cause and our well-organised approach. We will be using this money to help keep our forthcoming events at a price that remains affordable to all. Round Table is “all about having fun with a group of friends while at the same time trying to help the local community”. On behalf of this particular part of that community – our thanks.

One is a direct link to the Gallery of all our past events, organised into pages of 10 events each. A simple way to let new visitors see at a glance what it is that we do, or for more regular visitors to enjoy a bit of nostalgia.

Moccas Park With WildPlay

Here’s an excellent opportunity Flyer for a family visit to Moccas Park in March 2011to see a part of Herefordshire not normally open to the public, thanks to Herefordshire Nature Trust, Natural England and WildPlay. This old deer park is a National Nature Reserve on account of its wildlife and wealth of ancient trees. It has previously been described as “second only to Windsor” among forests in Britain, yet sits right on our doorstep in South Herefordshire, nestled between Dorstone and Bredwardine in the Golden Valley area. What with our friends at WildPlay there to help bring it alive to a family audience, it should all add up to a great Spring day out. Please note this event is not being organised by Days Out With Dad – to book a place for you and your family, you should do so directly with Herefordshire Nature Trust, using the contact details on the flyer.

…the new Days Out With Dad website. And all in the form of a handy blog, allowing us to wax lyrical on any theme we care to. Fortunately though, we won’t have the time, so instead we’ll be posting here a delicious menu of:

All this will appear just a little at a time, so keep coming back and you’ll find we’ve been busy. What’s more, thanks to a recent award byThe Cooperative Community Fund logo The Cooperative Membership Community Fund, a top notch web designer will soon be applying to these humble beginnings a magic wand of branding genius. Meanwhile, to whet your appetite, why not have a peek at the reports we’ve conjured up on our past events? Loads of pictures there, and perhaps – for now – the best way of exploring for yourself what it is that we do.

Importantly, please be bold and leave comments on any post you find here. In terms of value to us, your constructive feedback is second only to offers to get involved or volunteer (well – unless you’re busy pondering which of your Scottish Estates you’ll be holidaying on this year, in which case donations count highly too).
