A dad and child bandaged from head to toeDo you know what to do in an emergency? What course of action should you take when your child chokes on a tasty brussel sprout or your father cuts his leg while slicing the cheddar? And what if they drop unconscious soon thereafter? To find out how to deal with these and other potentially more likely scenarios, join us for an informal 1-hour course in First Aid, courtesy of the British Red Cross, on Sunday 29th April, 3pm at St Weonards. Not for the squeamish – the wounds will be nasty and the blood flowing. As ever, spaces are limited, so please visit the sign-up page to secure your places.

Deep Down With Dad

A boy with overalls, headlamp and torch in a dark cave in the Forest of DeanDays Out With Dad is offering an exciting opportunity for dads and children alike to join a guided potholing expedition in the Forest of Dean from 1.30pm on Sunday 2nd October, 2011.

Splitting into small groups, each with an experienced guide, we will venture into the dark underside of the Dean.  This is the world of the Forest Freeminer, where coal, iron, and ochre have been extracted for generations. Often it was young children who hauled the loads of ore from the workings.  Join us to crawl into their world for a couple of hours, the dark, the silence, the stillness.  Imagine the hard lives of children working here in times past.  Wonder at the beauty of the rock formations that our modern lights reveal to us but their single candles would have left as shadows for them.

Thanks to The City of Hereford Rotary Club, the cost will be just £5/ head. Please note that booking is essential.
